Cbank resumes foreign currency purchases Tue, buys 15.6 bln rbl

MOSCOW, Jan 17 (PRIME) -- The Russian central bank resumed foreign currency purchases for the Finance Ministry on Tuesday after several months of absence on the market buying 15.6 billion rubles worth of foreign currency, the authority said in a statement on Thursday.

In February 2017, the Finance Ministry entered the currency market to minimize dependence of the ruble on oil prices. In September 2018, the central bank suspended foreign currency purchases from the market for the Finance Ministry to reduce volatility on the financial markets.

The ministry resumed the purchases on Tuesday, with a plan to spend 15.6 billion rubles a day until February 6.
